The telephone voice tells you, "Estimated travel time for this 950 mile trip is nineteen minutes, using accelerated travel speed." The phone booth flies west. After about nineteen minutes of flying it sets itself down. The phone booth door pops open. PHONE BOOTH, at the beach You see the beach to the west. >w You drop the receiver. BEACH You notice that you're wearing a Superman costume. >fly You stretch your arms in front of you and push off the ground. You're flying, just like Superman! You fly over the ocean, exhilarated by the cold rush of air against your face and the salty spray from the waves below. You seem to be travelling at an incredibly high speed, so fast that that the sky grows darker as the sun recedes in back of you towards the eastern horizon. You're not sure at which point you cross over the International Date Line, but before long the sun falls below the horizon and the stars begin to appear. Dawn has not yet reached this part of the world. When the third star appears you can't help thinking of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Was that a pirate ship you saw below? Too late, it's gone from view. Flying at Super Speed has disadvantages for those not used to being Superman. ------------- Press space bar to continue ----------- ------ As you continue flying into the darkening sky, the air gets much colder. The red cape is not much help for warmth. So you try to fly southwards as well as westwards. Eventually you notice that the constellations are no longer familiar to you. You conclude that you must now be somewhere in the southern hemisphere. This makes you think of Bora Bora. Wait a minute, that seems to be Bora Bora below you! The tourists on Bora Bora seem to be having a great time watching a performer juggle firesticks. You head downwards to join the party, and but by the time you are able to land you discover that you have ended up overshooting Bora Bora by two or three smaller islands. There doesn't seem to be any party going on here on this island. TROPICAL ISLAND BEACH Palm trees are swaying in the light of the moon and the twinkling stars. You see Clark Kent here. He's sitting on a coconut, looking forlorn. He looks at your Superman costume with longing. The ocean lies to the east, and a shadowy path leads west through lush vegetation. >drop rug The magic carpet falls and unrolls as it hits the sand. >take off costume You take off the Superman costume. >give costume to clark kent Clark Kent drops the coconut and puts on the Superman costume. He thanks you profusely for returning his costume and then flies away. >take coconut You take the coconut. >sit on rug You're now sitting on the magic carpet. >fly The magic carpet begins to float. It rises and begins to fly. You fly over the ocean, headed back the way you came. After a while stars fade and the sun begins to rise in the east. As soon as the sun peaks over the horizon, the magic carpet drops out of the sky and falls into the ocean. You land in the water next to the carpet, which soon sinks below the surface and disappears from sight. You are left treading water in the middle of the ocean. The coconut is floating beside you, bobbing up and down in the ocean waves. After a while, a parrot comes and lands on the coconut. "Where'd you get the coconut?" the parrot asks you. But before you can answer, the coconut begins to float away with the parrot floating on top of it. Desperately you follow them, hoping that they will lead you to dry land. ------------- Press space bar to continue ----------- ------ After swimming for a long time you see the side of a ship looming before you. The parrot flies up onto the ship. You grab the coconut and climb up the side of the ship with great difficulty. Then you pull yourself over the side, only to be confronted by an exceptionally ugly-looking pirate. "Ar-ar-gh-gh!" the pirate growls as he pulls you forward by the scruff of your neck. The rum on his breath nearly renders you unconscious. Over the pirate's shoulder you see that further towards the stern of the ship Captain Hook is having a fierce sword fight with Peter Pan. Peter Pan seems to be having some trouble flying however, and he's calling out to Tink for more pixie dust. But where's Tinkerbell? You don't see her anywhere. ------------- Press space bar to continue ----------- ------ Then the ugly-looking pirate opens a hatch and tosses you down inside. The hatch closes and locks. You are trapped in an empty cabin of a pirate ship, the hatch above you closed and locked. The cabin is quite empty except for a corked rum bottle sitting on the floor. But the bottle contains no rum. Inside you see a tiny glowing fairy who is frantically beating on the sides of the bottle, trying to escape. It's Tinkerbell! >open bottle with corkscrew You open the rum bottle and Tinkerbell pops out. She's still tittering frantically, but she nevertheless wastes no time in flying through a small hole in the deck above. She opens the hatch from the other side and you pull yourself up onto the deck. The situation looks pretty grim here. Peter Pan is valiantly dueling with Captain Hook, hampered by his inability to fly since he has run out of pixie dust. The Lost Boys have been tied up and are being guarded by mean-looking pirates who no doubt intend to force them to walk the plank soon. Their weapons have been tied in a bag that hangs out of reach on the main mast. But the pirates are currently distracted watching the sword fight, so you take advantage of the opportunity to untie them one by one. You signal them to pretend that they are still tied until the time is right. Meanwhile Tinkerbell flies to Peter and sprinkles him with a generous portion of pixie dust. "I can fly!" Peter crows, and he leaps into the air to avoid a sword thrust of Captain Hook. Peter cuts free the bag of weapons and the Lost Boys run forward to join the fight. When the battle is over and the pirates are safely tied up, Peter Pan winks at you in thanks for your help, and asks Tinkerbell to sprinkle a pinch of pixie dust on you to help you get home. This makes you think some very happy thoughts, and you soon find yourself rising into the air. ------------- Press space bar to continue ----------- ------ You fly eastwards over the ocean. It takes quite a while for you to get back to the beach where you left the phone booth. As you approach the beach you can feel that the pixie dust is wearing off, but you manage to get safely onto the land before it is completely gone. What an adventure! BEACH
